Lance Shepherd - funeral arrangements

Dear members of the Australian polo community

I learnt yesterday the very sad news that Lance Shepherd has died following the serious fall he had nearly a year ago whilst playing polo in WA.

From North Star originally, Lance began his polo career working for Sinclair Hill for many years.  He then moved to Ellerston, starting at the same time as Jim Gilmore, as a young up and coming player. In 1998 and he spent time at Bobby Aguirre’s Timor Station before heading to Queensland for several years where he worked with Ron Wanless and Mike King.

Lance gained a handicap of 5 goals but is best known for his wonderful horse skills.

Lance was husband to Linda, father to Ashleigh and James, who is currently based at Garangula Polo Club and stepfather to Nacho Gonzalez, also a professional player.
