James Simson, born 1966

My memories of James are woven amongst family memories of farm stays, cattle days and endless country driving.

I took this photo of "Jamo", my cousin on mum's side, as he was preparing for a game of Polo in country NSW. He was clearly deep in thought, in preparation for the match. Jamo "Could play from prop to flanker" and never gave up.

He was often deep in thought. He had a quiet considered demeanour and was strong, generous and an inspiration to me. His opinion was highly valued by those who sought it, certainly at least in my family.

He often saved the day with ingenuity and effort. He was always first to help. Once I bit off more than I could chew on a DIY house renovation. The very next day Jamo turned up in Sydney, having driven five hours in his old Hilux, to correct the situation.

I'm sure just about everyone he knew would have a similar memory of James going out of his way to help them.

We adored James. We will miss him.

I took this photo of Jamo as he was preparing to play polo, somewhere in country NSW, about four years ago.
