Polo Pathways has been established by Katie Edmeades and Tom Martin who have worked alongside each other for years in various capacities. But it was recently, after working on the management team for the Women's World Cup, they decided join forces to address what they perceive as a significant gap in player development in Australia. Polo Pathways been structured with the aim of not only introducing new players to the sport through high-level coaching, but by offering long -term development opportunities for players and coaches alike.
Katie gained invaluable experience by benefiting firsthand from the UK systems and the HPA, known for their well-established structures, thorough programs, and abundant opportunities for players to grow and excel. This insight complements the work Tom already does with NSW having dedicated so much of his time to nurturing and honing the skills of young players, having significantly contributing to their development and growth in the sport.
Both Katie and Tom share a passion for education and have a deep understanding of the game worldwide as well as how important it is to support, develop, and protect professional players and service providers in the sport. Polo Pathways will collaborate with horse lenders and coaches, providing additional income to local and traveling professionals, in turn this will enable PP to offer a diverse selection of learning opportunities.
Polo Pathways has a series of information nights planned over the upcoming months. These events will feature talks from equine industry professionals to offer insights into their respective fields. The aim of these is to support educational engagement and improve processes and understanding to benefit our own horses and game.
The first information night is planned for 29th August in the Hawkesbury and will feature a discussion on Polo Pony Nutrition with Ash Porteous - A trusted Mitavite / Hygain territory manager and equine nutrition advisor.
We are incredibly fortunate to have Ash as a local resource, someone many of us in the area already rely on. For those who don’t, you may recognise Ash from her time working as a polo groom, before her career progressed into equine nutrition.
Her background in the sport gives her a unique and practical understanding of our expectations and the specific needs of our horses.
Take this opportunity to learn “how and why” we should be feeding our horses with purpose, for performance, longevity, and injury prevention.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired.
The NSW Polo Association is committed to fostering the expansion and advancement of polo. Whether you are interested in becoming a part of the sport, acquiring knowledge on how to play, enhancing your current abilities, or renting horses for matches, feel free to contact Katie Edmeades or Tom Martin via email at polopathways@outlook.com and they will be more than happy to assist you with any inquiries or support you may need regarding polo participation and development opportunities.
