Jack, Cody, and Blake Grimes have recently completed a stint playing and working in Argentina with Mariano Agurre at his renowned Los Machitos property. The boys spent six weeks living, working, and playing at Los Machitos as guests of Mariano and his Australian business partner Nick Manifold.
Mariano developed the plan during his 2024 spring tour of Australia when he recognized the necessity for promising young Australians to gain more exposure to Argentina's world-leading polo systems.
Mariano extended an invitation to the talented Grimes brothers to be the inaugural participants in what will become a regular opportunity for NSW and Australia's top young talent.
NSWPA and Queensland patron Glen Wright covered the boys' airfares.
During their time in Argentina, the boys participated in practice games at four different locations: El Monte – Los Machitos Club, Chapaleufú, Los Machitos–El Campo, and Club Fortín Mulitas.
The boys were completely engrossed in the Los Machitos program, delving deep into every facet of the renowned Argentine polo system. They were actively participating and learning daily under the guidance of the former 10-goal superstar.
Nick Manifold characterized the program as highly successful. He stated, "The boys have acquired a wealth of knowledge and made significant progress during their stay. They are a true asset to their family - incredibly pleasant individuals who exhibit strong work ethic."
"They possess exceptional riding skills and above all, always maintain a positive attitude."
Cody Grimes extended his stay in the USA with Mariano and Nick for additional training and experience, while Jack and Blake have returned to Australia after their time abroad.
This presents an incredible opportunity for young Australians aspiring to pursue a career in polo. NSWPA is Incredibly gratefull to Mariano and Nick for their hospitality and providing this remarkable opportunity for emerging Australian players.
