Polo NSW is taking proactive steps by establishing a youth committee to empower young and emerging players within the sport. The Youth Committee will convene regularly to discuss polo-related matters and provide valuable feedback to the main board. This initiative's primary goal is to engage young players in shaping the administration, governance and future direction of the sport.
The founding committee members will be selected by the Polo NSW board, while subsequent Youth Committees will undergo an election process.
President Jeremy Bayard emphasized that this initiative aims to cultivate leadership skills among young individuals and ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities over time, stating:
“These are the future leaders of the sport and the earlier we can get them engaged in its administration the better.”
"The Youth Committee will consider all topics related to polo and specifically provide input and feedback on training and development opportunities; youth tournaments; discipline and social opportunities"
“We are looking for people with influence in the junior cohort who are willing to represent the views of our younger brigade"
“There’s an expectation that the Youth Committee members will also be standard bearers for on and off-the-field behaviour"
“The future of the sport belongs to the youth, so it’s important they have a say in its planning.”
Meetings will primarily take place online at intermittent intervals, encouraging representatives from all regions to actively engage in discussions. Applications are welcome from individuals under 25 years old, It is important we have a spread of ages within that broader youth category so we invite younger players to apply as well.
